At last the communities of Maruleng are over the moon due to the launch of the most awaited Thusong Service Centre.
The days of traveling long distances to access basic government services are a thing of the past for almost 96 000 villagers of Maruleng Local Municipality.
The Municipality is situated at the south quadrant of the Limpopo Province within the Mopani District. It has been identified as one of the presidential nodal points with high number of unemployment and high level of poverty.
Maruleng local municipality is demarcated into 12 wards comprising of 33 villages with 24589 house holds. The community members use to travel more than 100km to access government services either at Ba-Phalaborwa or Greater Tzaneen Local Municipalities.
Maruleng Thusong service centre started its operation on the 04th February 2008. Since then 43739 community members received services offered both by government and parastatals.
The Thusong Service Centre was officially opened by Acting Premier MEC for Roads and Transport Hon. Justice Pitso on the 22nd November 2008. The MEC indicated that “The aim of building the centre is to change the lives of the people for the better by bringing services closer to you”.
The following service providers offer a range of services on a daily basis at the Centre: Home Affairs, Social Development, Health, Independent Electoral Commission, Treasury, SASSA, Agriculture, SAPS, Umsobomvu Youth, Department of Economic Development Environmental Affairs and Tourism, as well as Limpopo Business Support Agency. |
