The government’s effort to bring services and information closer to local communities received a major boost with the launch of the Rabie Ridge Thusong Service Centre on Thursday August 26, 2010.

A Thusong Service Centre is a one- stop service centre providing information and services to communities in an integrated way. It improves community’s access to government opportunities. The Thusong programme started in 1998 and has since reached thousands of communities nationwide. Rabie Ridge is the 43rd centre to be launched in Gauteng and 151st to be operationalised nationally.

In addition to municipal services rendered, the community will now have access to the Departments’ of Home Affairs, Labour, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Government Communications (GCIS) and Health and Social Development Social Workers.

In his keynote address, the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Mr Bheki Nkosi assured the community that government is committed to ensuring that there is an improvement in service delivery for total citizen empowerment.

During the event, the Department of Home Affairs provided assistance to those who wanted enabling documents.  As a sign of community participation in the programme, Mr Kaizer Komane, a community leader and member of the Local Intersectoral Steering committee  (LISSC) was appointed as a care-taker Centre Manager who will ensure that the centre operates effectively.
