Gauteng, March 2008-

Sustaining the momentum in accelerating government access to information and services to the people

Another landmark was realized by Gauteng Provincial Government when they launched two of their Thusong Service Centres during the month of March.  The two Centres, Hammanskraal and Olievenhoutbosch, were launched on the 20 and 28 March respectively.  These Centres have been operational for some time and the launch and branding events were to celebrate the benefits and positive change these Centres have brought into the lives of the communities.

The activities of the day included a formal programme with cultural events in the marquee, exhibitions, executive members’ official site visits and staged performances by local artists.   Different departments operating at the Centres were invited to make presentations about the kind of services they offer.

Both events enjoyed the presence of political leaders, senior government officials, community development workers (CDWs) and members of the community. In his keynote address the MEC for Public Transport Road and Works, Mr Ignatius Jacobs, highlighted the importance of Hammanskraal Thusong Service Centre as a hub of activities for the people of the area, the nodal point of information, government’s Programme of Action and enhanced service delivery.

For both events the office of the Premier provided catering to the community, the youth, disabled and the VIP’s.
