Kgomotsego Thusong Service a real gem to the Community of Vanzylsrus

September 2011

Vanzylsrus is situated 190km from Kuruman and in the past it was difficult for the people of this area to access government and other services. The establishment and launch of Kgomotsego Thusong Service Centre in 2009 brought relief to this community. The community of Vanzylsrus was part of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District municipal area but after the local government election in May 2011 the community was incorporated into Joe Morolong Municipality under the Mayor Ester Chipanga Molete.

Besides municipal pay point, the Library, the Clinic, the Tourism centre and the South African Police Service (SAPS) Kgomotsego Kgomotsego Thusong is serviced by government departments based in Kuruman on a regular basis. The Centre is managed by Mrs Elretha Van Wyk.

In July 2011 light box and road signage were installed to make the reach of the centre easier especially for the outsiders.
Among others, the centre has facilitated various needs and achieved the following:

After the community battled with ambulance services for a long time, the local person was identified and appointed as ambulance driver and will soon be sent for training.

The community does not have to travel long distances any longer to purchase pre paid electricity as the ESKOM machine has been through the intervention of John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality in June 2011.

Quarterly newsletter has been developed for the centre to continuously update the community on events and news from the centre and other programme of action of government.

As the name indicates, the Kgomotsego Thusong Service Centre is really where the community can get comfort as their needs are listened to and addressed.
