Laingsburg Thusong Service Centre (Western Cape)

Laingsburg Thusong Service Centre receives funding from the National Development Agency

The Laingsburg Thusong Service Centre has received R 600 000 from the National Development Agency (NDA) to implement a brick laying project at the centre.

The centre received the funding for the brick laying project after the Centre Manager, Mr Steven Schippers and his management team applied for funding to the National Development Agency (NDA).

A project coordinator with the relevant staff will be appointed to start this project. This will create job opportunities for the many unemployed people of Laingsburg and its people as Laingsburg is a poverty-stricken area.

The target group to be employed are woman, the youth, disabled groups and HIV/AIDS communities.

The National Development Agency focuses on poverty eradication and has formed partnerships with the Laingsburg Thusong Service Centre to fulfil its mandate.

A number of projects and programmes throughout the country have benefited from the NDA’s ability to channel funds where they are needed.

The agency has received around R 550 million since inception and R 433 million of this has been distributed.

The project will be monitored and evaluated by the Laingsburg Thusong Service Centre and will become self sustainable to employ more of the unemployed people in Laingsburg, Matjiesfontein and surrounding farms.

The centre will soon start their operations and the necessary training will be given to participants in the project to ensure they are competent to succeed.
