Laingsburg Thusong Service Centre (Western Cape)

Laingsburg Thusong Service Centre receives allocation from District Municipality

The Laingsburg Thusong Service Centre has been awarded an amount of R 130 000 for projects to be implemented at the Thusong Service Centre by the Central Karoo District municipality‘s Global fund.

This follows after the management of the Thusong had applied for funding for projects that will be implemented at the centre. The funding was received by the Global fund that is being coordinated by the district municipality in Beaufort West.

The R 130 000 will be utilize for two projects namely coffin making and the making of clothing and each project has been allocated an amount of R 65 000 for the operations and the production.

The project will employ a project coordinator, employ staff for the projects and will be overseen by the Thusong management board in terms of monitoring and evaluation.

These projects will focus on the unemployed women, disability groups and the youth of Laingsburg and its surrounding farms as there is a high level of unemployed in Laingsburg where youth idle is very high.

Through these projects, poverty will be addressed thus allowing people to use their skills and their abilities to create an income for themselves to better their lives.

These projects are aiming to become self sustainable and will employ more of the unemployed community of Laingsburg as the business grows.

These projects will operate from the Thusong service centre and the various groups will use their existing skills to make products which can empower them in terms of economic growth for themselves and the community.

These projects will also draw more movement to the center and more people will access government’s services and opportunities to better their lives.

Through initiatives like these, the community is being integrated into the programmes of the Thusong centre to promote a sense of ownership and participation but moreover to other partners to bring their talent and business to the centre which has been placed by government to serve as a centre for development communication and the bettering of the lives of communities.
